Web 2.0 Applications

Pages I replied to on our class forum:

Flocabulary

For my Web 2.0 application, I chose www.flocabulary.com. I had heard of this resource but never actually looked into it. I'm so glad I did. This resource is incredibly helpful for a LA/Reading teacher to have in her box of tricks. Often there are concepts that students need to review in a fun way and I love how this website creates fun raps to do that. It's a very catchy and engaging way to help students learn. I've already added the following video to my lesson tomorrow as my students are currently working on creative writing and will start writing imaginative stories soon.

Digital Storytelling

I had a lot of fun with this assignment. I was intrigued to figure out what exactly digital storytelling was. I really love the amount of creativity that students have when creating these stories. It gives them enough structure to easily create stories, but it also gives them the freedom to think outside the box! Definitely looking forward to using this resource in class! Here is the link to my quick story I made, hopefully it works!

Wiki Pages

Here is the link to my Wiki page: https://missjarrardsfourthgradeclass.wikispaces.com/
Although Wiki appears to be a great resource and communication tool, I find the layout slightly overwhelming. I really enjoy some of the features of the site but it's not as user friendly as other collaborative websites I've used in the past. I would much prefer to use Google resources for this type of task. Either way, I'm excited to have learned about Wiki and may look into it again in the future!

RSS Feeds

I have to admit that I was quite confused and skeptical of RSS feeds before completing this assignment. I had heard the word thrown around several times but never bothered to look into what it was. Now that I didn't have a choice, I'm glad we covered this topic! The feeds allow you to stay updated with the latest news/info from favorite sites. I'm gradually learning more and more about how resourceful blogs can be. Not just on a personal level, but from a classroom perspective too. I think it's important for teachers to have a PLN so they can effectively communicate its genuine value to students. I'm excited to try out classroom blogging next year and see how my students do with it. Until then, I'll keep an open mind and soak up as much digital knowledge as I can!

Google Drive!

Google Drive is an AMAZING resource. I'm thankful that our school uses Drive in many ways. It makes implementing this technology in the classroom, a lot easier. I've used Google Drive with my students and they absolutely love creating things with the resource. Here is a link to a form my teammate and I created at the beginning of the school year. We had this form set up in our classrooms on "Meet the Teacher Night" so that parents could fill in their contact info and other important information we may need regarding their kiddos. One thing I love about Google Forms is that it saves the information in a spreadsheet format which makes it very easy to organize! It also sends you the results right away and saves to your Drive without hassle. Enjoy!

Glogster!

While this was a new experience for me, I love how it turned out! I'm definitely looking forward to exploring this more and implementing it into my classroom!
